Without warning my domain was suspended. I was told this was not controlled by Hostgator but Nominet. This is not the case. Hostgator provides the service on behalf of Reatime Registrar. So it is entirely inside thier control to fix this. They are giving it zero priority. 48 hours in so far. They tell me it is Nominet. Nominet tell me they could have fixed it but for Hostgator and their provider. They would also have given pre advice. This should have been given to me by Hostgator. It turns out the hstinger form is unable to accept the format of my name and address. So this issue is entirely of their making and apparently their policy is to turn off access without warning or requesting clarification. They have got the spade award for digging a hole for themselves.

Thought for the past year that they were a good company but sorely disappointed. Took out a Business Plan account a year ago on a 4 year plan on the introductory rate. Soon afterwards I got an email from Hostgator saying that I had reached my resource limit, and needed to upgrade to cloud. Turns out that I had never gone anywhere near my resource limit at all and never needed an upgrade. When I did do this upgrade they charged me at the higher renewal rate, when it was not a renewal. So they told me I needed to upgrade when I absolutely didn't and charged me at a higher renewal rate for this .They converted that I had paid for a 4 year plan into credits for the upgrade I didn't need. The credits did not go very far at all since they were charging me for the upgrade at the higher renewal rate, meaning that I only then had the upgrade for 1 year, and a year later they are wanting me to renew again. So seems that advertising this Business Plan introductory four year offer is one big scam, since a year later you're needing to pay a lot more again. On querying I was told that yes my resource limits are within what the lower Business Plan would handle (not unexpected given that I onnly have a few small websites) despite when I asked to upgrade him trying to initially tell me that if I downgrade I would quickly run out of space. Now looking elsewhere as I am absoutely not giving any more money to a company who told me that I needed to upgrade when I definitely didn't, just after I took out a lower plan on an introductory rate, then charged me for the unnecessary upgrade at a higher renewal rate, with a robotic customer service person who ignores the points that I am trying to make. I would like to think of Hostgator as a good company overall, but in this case they have failed massively, and I really don't appreciate having my money stolen.

Just another website over using AI in mediocre ways to make mediocre things with the worst "customer support" in the world. All I wanted to know was how to upload my own html files but their "customer support" is just a series of bad ais that skims their faq and generates a vague and useless statement about what to do.

I love the fact that the support team's response was prompt enough. Though the issue that required support persists, the assurance from the support team for me was highly trusted. Great job guys.

For context, I've been using Hostgator for a few years now not only for hosting but also domain acquisition. I'm a solo indie game developer working on an extremely tight budget and Hostgator has sufficed for not only hosting game websites, but also game files for clients to download.Hostgator offers a dashboard with all the options anyone could ever need, including wordpress support and a decent little website builder for a small extra fee and domain emails through Titan, all for an outstandingly affordable price. My experience with Hostgator hasn't been flawless, however half of which I'm pretty sure has just been due to my inexperience and ignorance when it comes to website management, and my issues are fixed very swiftly whenever I reach out to customer support, who always answer so much faster than I expect. Agents are always very patient with me- someone who doesn't understand a whole lot about website management.I should mention however, that an AI chatbot is typically your first assistant and I've had it spew a lot of blatantly false information about what Hostgator offers for paid plans at me that caused a lot of confusion. A lot of time has passed since that incident and I do believe the chatbot has improved significantly. I had it correctly automatically fix an issue or me the day before writing this, however I didn't appreciate a bot automatically changing settings about my website without consent when it had previously given me false information despite it being correct in its actions. It seems you can easily bypass the AI bot by asking for an agent / human / anything along those lines.

Great support. But not every support agent is as competent as they are supposed to be at times. But great help and support. Slow responses.

I’ve been a loyal customer of Hostgator for years, managing multiple clients’ sites through their platform. However, my recent experience has been nothing short of frustrating. A random issue developed on one of the websites, and Hostgator’s support team has been handling the ticket for weeks, if not months, without providing any real resolution. They closed my ticket without fixing the problem, forcing me to start the process all over again.Since then, on three separate occasions, they disabled plugins and claimed the issue was resolved—clearly not a fix, just a way to move the problem. Each time I asked to speak to a manager, I was told I couldn’t. I’ve also asked about making a formal complaint, and again, I was told that wasn’t an option. After this repeated poor handling and lack of accountability, I’ve decided to move my clients away from Hostgator. My advice? Avoid them. Their support team lacks the knowledge and customer care that should be a given for a hosting provider.

So far, so good with my account .. except.. I almost wanted to knock off two stars for the scummy misleading deal with e-mails on Hostgator's hosting. It's pretty standard practice to allow a hosting user to create e-mail accounts against any of their domains that are hosted, but not at Hostgator. You will be allowed to create your e-mail addresses in ONE DOMAIN ONLY and this is not clarified on their pricing page. So, outside of that one domain, you have to pay $22 pesos ( US $1 or $1.50?) per month instead of $0.00 per month for every single e-mail account. I'm usually a five-star reviewer, but I don't like this lack of transparency. I'm not including my account e-mail, because I am not expecting Hostgator to fix anything in my account. It would be great if they were more honest and clear on their pricing page. I suppose I will be another screwed-over small business owner who will pass on the extra cost to the customer, resulting in less flexibility in what I'm able to charge (and keep) for my own services. I'll be back to knock off more stars when and if I find any other hidden, unexpected costs or other shady behavior.

Referrals are not being paid out in time. They then quote their own TOS but quickly shift to " automated system problems " when realizing that the TOS terms payout period has already been passed. Excuses and pre-constructed answers only make the matter worse. Answering " I appreciate your patience and understanding " to a client who just told you they lost trust in your services doesn't seem to be intended for anything else than to agitate the situation further! Over the years they seem to have constructed a guidebook of excuses to provide as little help as possible, all while sounding "helpful" but actually talking down to their clients for their own amusement. It's very sad to see the degrading service quality since 2018 ( yep, that's how long I have been at Hostgator) The performance of their cloud and VPS plans is good, so now comes the time to decide, do I stay for the decent performance or leave because of the frustrating lack of trust they instil?

THIS HOSTING COMPANY IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE, AND I AM NOT EXAGGERATING! LET ME TELL YOU WHY:1- ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, I ENCOUNTERED A BASIC PROBLEM WITH MY SITE. THEY INSISTED IT WAS A DEVELOPER ISSUE AND PROVIDED ME WITH A SOLUTION. HOWEVER, AFTER INFORMING THEM THAT THEIR SOLUTION DID NOT WORK, THEY OFFERED ANOTHER ONE. DESPITE TRYING A TOTAL OF SIX DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS THEY PROVIDED, NONE OF THEM WORKED. AFTER COUNTLESS EMAILS BACK AND FORTH, THEY FINALLY ADMITTED THAT THEY WERE AT FAULT FOR THE PROBLEM. I WASTED HOURS FOLLOWING THEIR RIDICULOUS SUGGESTIONS AND WE EXCHANGED OVER 125 EMAILS ON THIS ISSUE. DESPITE ACKNOWLEDGING THEIR RESPONSIBILITY, THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM THEMSELVES, AND IT WAS NEVER RESOLVED.2- RECENTLY, WHEN I ACCESSED MY SITE, I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND THAT SOME PAGES WERE BLANK, TEXT WAS SCATTERED ALL OVER THE PLACE, AND THE DESIGN WAS COMPLETELY NONSENSICAL. IT WAS A COMPLETE DISASTER AND THE SITED NEEDED TO BE SHUT DOWN. WHEN I REACHED OUT TO THEM, THEY PREDICTABLY BLAMED ME FOR THE ISSUES AND REFUSED TO TAKE ANY ACTION TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE IS SO SEVERE THAT I SUSPECT THEY SABOTAGED MY SITE IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET RID OF ME AS A "SMALL" CLIENT.IN CONCLUSION, STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. THEY ARE UNRELIABLE, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND WILL ONLY CAUSE YOU ENDLESS FRUSTRATION AND DISAPPOINTMENT.

Great service, great support. Just their email pricing scheme is something I can't get over, this feels very scammy to me.Too bad, otherwise I would love to give 5 stars.

EDIT AT OCT 31 2024: Fifty (50!!) emails later, and hours of my time wasted, I received a full refund from Hostgator for the hosting package that turned into the eighth circle of hell. The refund in no way compensates for the stress and time lost throughout. Absolutely not worth it. STEER CLEAR.----EDIT AT OCT 29 2024: The farce continues. I am presently attempting to get a full refund for the hosting package I am not able to access because of 500 and 425 errors on the server (500 and 425 errors are the responsibility of the host... nothing I can do). Customer Service misidentified the package I bought, and asked me to renew a service that I do not have. Here is what they wrote:"Don't worry, I have read the previous conversations, I am aware these files are important to you, but our team has already clarified we cannot provide VPS backups, there is a way for you to have your backups, by renewing your VPS, having your backups downloaded and, afterward, I can refund your renewal the second your backups are downloaded, can we proceed like that?"To be clear: (i) I do not have a VPS hosting package; (ii) nothing has expired, so there is nothing to "renew". As for the "backups" this representative mentions, I requested that Hostgator provide to me a copy of the files from the server which I cannot access myself because of THEIR server errors (500 and 425). I am not requesting above-and-beyond services, just access to my IP.Hostgator are beyond incompetent. A different person will respond on Customer Service each time, and, as the above goes to show, that person has not read the entire thread and has no understanding of the situation. It's like Groundhog Day but way less fun. I cannot wait to have nothing more to do with this company. Urging all my fellow tech professionals to do themselves a favor and steer well clear of this nightmare company.----EDIT AT OCT 28 2024: THE SAME SERVER ERROR HAS HAPPENED AGAIN, within 4 days of Hostgator claiming it was "fixed". AVOID AVOID AVOID.Here is the explanation I received from Hostgator after 8 days of no access by FTP to the webspace I am paying them for:"Thank you for your patience while waiting for an updated from our technical team.I wanted to update you on the recent FTP access issues you’ve been experiencing. After investigating, we have identified that the issue was caused by an operating system upgrade from CloudLinux 7 to CloudLinux 8, which triggered an intermittent issue with our firewall configuration. While most clients were not affected by this upgrade, we understand that a few, including yourself, have experienced disruptions with FTP access. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and want to assure you that our team is working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.Could you please confirm if you are still experiencing any issues with FTP access on your end, or if the situation has improved?"Four days after this message, the same problem HAPPENED AGAIN. The exact same error codes. I will be moving my business elsewhere. 8 days to "fix" it and it ain't even fixed. Hostgator are not able to provide even basic service to me. Be mindful that, for all the glowing reviews from others, you might be the unlucky soul like me who gets a total nightmare out of Hostgator. Think twice. Find another host.------Absolute garbage - avoid! They changed the IP address of my (shared) server without informing me. That was the first thing. That in itself is appalling! But it goes on. For over a week now, I have had 500 and 425 connection errors by FTP with the same server. (Both these are server-side errors, ie. Hostgator's responsibility.) Customer service were notified of the issue over a week ago, but keep sending me nonsensical updates that "they are putting all resources into it" and "thank you for your patience" (prayer hands emoji)... Great, but it still isn't fixed! 8 days later. Their server, their problem, still not fixed!Their hosting services are certainly not as advertised, and are the worst I have experienced of any hosting company I have tried (which includes 1and1/Ionos, Hostgator and GoDaddy). I'm happy for those folks who've had better experiences of this company, but for me Hostgator have been farcically inept.Initiating a chargeback for my hosting fees on the grounds of breach of contract: service not provided as advertised.

I use cloudflare full page caching. When Hostgator shows a captcha to cloudflare the cloudflare catching system CATCH it and show the recaptcha page in the place of my ORGINIAL CONTENT. Even though i solved captcha It's not solving at all!I DID NOT PROVIDED OR GAVE PERMISSION to Hostgator modify my content without my consent. So why Hostgator enables bot protection in my website without my consent? This is harming my business a LOT. Previously i contacted with Hostgator a lot of times about the issue. This is a LEGAL issue. Please aolve it Asap
