I had a truly frustrating and disheartening experience with GoDaddy that has left me deeply upset. In 2017, I was running a domain with 60K to 100K views and started seeing some income, around $50 per day. However, without any warning, GoDaddy locked my domain and demanded a ridiculous $7,000 to unlock it.They also requested unnecessary card details from both sides, which added to my frustration. Despite my attempts to contact them and resolve the issue, I was met with poor customer service and no resolution. This went on for days, and I was left feeling completely powerless – unable to sleep, eat, or continue my work.It felt like a scam – after all the effort I had put into growing my domain, GoDaddy decided to hold it hostage and demand an astronomical fee that was completely unjustified. Their lack of transparency and disregard for customer loyalty is shocking.I would strongly advise others to think twice before using GoDaddy. They may offer low initial prices, but their renewal practices and fees are deceitful, and you may find yourself in a similar situation with no way out. I would recommend using a more ethical and reliable domain registrar like Namecheap or Google Domains instead.

I have used GoDaddy for several years, but my experience with their domain locking and pricing practices has raised significant ethical concerns.Domain Locking and Price Hikes:GoDaddy locks domains by default, which is intended to protect against unauthorized transfers. However, this can sometimes be problematic, especially when combined with their pricing practices. After purchasing a domain, I noticed that the price to transfer or renew the domain can often be much higher than expected. This creates a sense of being locked into GoDaddy, which feels more like a way to maintain control over a customer’s domain rather than a genuine security measure. The higher renewal rates after the initial offer feel deceptive, as they don’t reflect the true ongoing cost of owning a domain.Lack of Transparency in Pricing:GoDaddy advertises low prices for domain registration, but these are often only available for the first year. The renewal costs and other hidden fees (like those for transferring domains or making changes) are significantly higher, which feels misleading. As a customer, I would expect more transparency regarding the long-term costs associated with domain ownership. This lack of upfront clarity feels unethical.Customer Lock-in Strategy:Domain locking, combined with the high renewal rates, creates a situation where customers may feel trapped with GoDaddy, unable to transfer their domains easily to other registrars without incurring significant costs. This practice seems designed to keep customers locked in, even if they no longer wish to use GoDaddy’s services, which raises ethical concerns about their business practices.Unclear Transfer Policies:While locking a domain is meant to protect it from unauthorized transfers, GoDaddy’s process for unlocking and transferring domains can be confusing and cumbersome. I’ve experienced delays and challenges in transferring domains, which feels like an intentional obstacle to make switching providers more difficult. While GoDaddy provides a wide range of services, their pricing structure and domain locking policies leave a lot to be desired in terms of transparency and fairness. I believe they need to be more upfront with their customers about the full cost of ownership and improve their transfer policies to ensure a more ethical approach to customer relations.

Edit to Tom: regarding pricing - My issue wasn't the increase, but the way GoDaddy handled it. I received an email on 11/20 stating I'd be charged a specific amount, to a completely different amount actually being charged on 12/14. When I called I was told pricing increased and to disregard the payment reminder that was sent... that's bad business. Also, I have text messages of being threatened to have my website deleted because the customer service rep didn't understand what the actual issue is. They probably weren't even people and why I was given generic and disrespectful responses. This is the worst website builder on the market. It takes forever to update, they have non stop ads and pop up when you're trying to enter your information, and they biggest downfall of this company is you sign up for a service locking into a price and they change it without notice. Disgusting business practices and their customer service reps will hang up on you if you ask for help.

Contacted GoDaddy’s customer support multiple times over the past three years to request a resolution, with no success - unacceptable customer service, unauthorized account manipulations, and unresolved issues that have caused me significant financial losses, stress for almost 3 years now 1 - I initially contacted GoDaddy’s customer support for assistance, but instead of resolving my concerns, they manipulated my account and subscriptions without my consent. This led to recurring changes and unauthorized charges.2. Continuous Billing reminder and Stress: - Despite my repeated efforts to address these issues with GoDaddy over the past three years, the company has failed to provide any resolution. Instead, I have been subjected to constant reminders of billing and additional charges, adding to my stress and dissatisfaction.3. Wasted Effort and money Loss in my account with GODADDY - The situation has completely derailed my efforts to establish my website and build my startup. All the time, effort, and money I invested have been wasted, leaving me disheartened and without the foundation I worked hard to create. - This prolonged ordeal has caused me significant emotional distress and has negatively impacted my health. I have lost all trust in GoDaddy’s customer support team due to their mishandling of my concerns and their failure to resolve the situation.I have Request for Refund and Compensation: NO SOLUTION but NONSTOP email of bills and reminders to renew. JOKER!Hoping for FTC Assistanceto hold GoDaddy accountable for their actions and ensure that they:1. Provide a full refund for all charges incurred since the start of my account.2. Compensate me for the significant losses and emotional distress they have caused.3. Take steps to prevent such issues from occurring to other customers in the future.

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with GoDaddy, and I feel compelled to share my ordeal. I needed an authorization code to transfer my domain, a simple request, yet it turned into a complete disaster.Over the span of 3 hours, I contacted 3 different representatives on WhatsApp chat and even spoke to a person over the phone. None of them could give me a clear solution or the authorization code I needed. Instead, I was sent on a ping-pong ride between GoDaddy and my web hosting provider.GoDaddy insisted that the DNS settings, which I updated a week ago, were the reason I couldn’t get the code, and they told me to “check with my web hosting.” Meanwhile, my web hosting provider insisted that the issue lay with GoDaddy because they are the domain registrar. No one could take ownership of the issue, leaving me completely stuck and out of options. After wasting hours on chats and calls, I got nowhere. GoDaddy, as my domain registrar, should be able to provide the authorization code without all this back and forth. Instead, they passed the responsibility onto someone else.If you’re considering GoDaddy for domain registration, think twice. This experience has convinced me to move my business elsewhere. Save yourself the frustration and choose a company that takes responsibility and provides real solutions. at the present moment I got no web site ! shopfoot.fr
