Overall I'm dissatisfied with Hostgator. I've hosted several websites with them for several years now, and will likely be changing away to a different hosting provider upon my renewal. The good: their UI and built-in features are simple to use and easy to navigate. The service is initially incredibly cheap, but with a big asterisk. The site migration works pretty well. The bad: my biggest issue with Hostgator is their load times/server response times, and huge bogdowns on their shared servers that make all my sites basically unusable at times. Even when their server isn't bogged down the response time for my sites is still usually at least a couple seconds, which is unacceptable. A copy of the same site with other hosting providers will have the site fully loaded before Hostgator's site even responds. But when their servers bog down, which maybe 2 or 3 times a week that I try to load my sites they are bogged down, the sites take anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute to load, which is unusable and will lose my companies business. Hostgator support just says that's the nature of using shared servers and that the server's resources are being used up by other users and tasks, causing the slow performance. I'm not on their cheapest plan either, I'm on their highest tier "business" plan. You'd think the performance would be better. The second big annoyance for me is their deceptive intro pricing. I could maybe excuse the performance if the pricing stayed as low as it is upon initial signup. But once you renew you're going to be paying probably triple the price. This should be the common sense treatment of their customers once you see all of their perpetual fake sales and countdowns on their homepage, but it's still disappointing. There's several other frustrations that I won't mention here, but overall I would recommend staying away from Hostgator if you're planning on using any of their shared plans, as the performance is unacceptable even with the most simple lightweight sites of mine.

My plan with over 200 websites completely encountered 404 errors after they transferred the server. Chatting with the AI support didn't address the issue, and when contacting support agents, the problem wasn't resolved. I had to create a case and have been waiting for over 12 hours. Revenue has decreased, websites have lost rankings, the client canceled the contract and all I received was 'just wait for the update.' Bad service, bad support, 99% downtimeChoose a better service to avoid affecting the hard-earned achievements of many years of effort. My current plan is their best optionJanuary 23, 202519:21: Received an email confirming the server migration was successful, with a note that no new IP changes were required.19:40: Discovered an issue and reported it to the AI.20:00: Spoke to a real person.21:00: Unable to identify the issue, so I created a support ticket.January 24, 202507:00: Still chatting with other support agents (2–3 people only providing automated answers without any useful information or solutions).13:00: My ticket is finally being processed, but my issue remains unresolved even after 16 hours.19:30: Still error [Pending Update]: Continuing to wait for a resolution

Hostgator has all the makings of a good hosting site, but their customer service is very frustrating. This is what happened:I signed up for a Business Plan account and migrated 4 websites into it. This took 4 hours. I then realised I needed to update my CloudFlare DNS records and asked some questions in the Live Chat. Kodee replied and said I needed a dedicated IP to use the A records from CloudFlare. It suggested I upgrade to the VPS plan to get a dedicated IP, which I did. I think redid all 4 migrations again. After a lot of reading, I found out that the advice given to me was just plain wrong. Kodee upsold me on a new plan when I did not need a dedicated IP address. I raised the issue and requested them to downgrade my account back to the Business Plan are refund the difference. I was told that I would have to delete it, request a refund and purchase it again, which I was not going to do for a 3rd time having spent a day on it. When I tried to show a live human the error their support bot had made it went in circles. You never really know when you are talking to a human or a bot, but they were but highly apologetic but refused to actually do anything.PROSGood migration tool automationWell pricedCONSIncorrect information from AI SupportCustomer Support seem indifferent to your plight

I was luckily in the position of changing hosting providers, so I already had my websites up and running. Then I saw all these adverts about Hostgator, so I thought 'what the hell' as I was still within the refund period on my hosting provider, so I opened an account on Hostgator, with its automatic set-ups.The first thing they tried to do, was to get me to migrate all of my websites to Hostgator myself. This did not go down very well with me, as I've already mentioned that Hostgator is supposed to be an automatic install. So when they finally relented and did their jobs, I tried out all of the websites.God, I've never seen slower websites anywhere! They came back with all excuses, saying that I MUST OPTIMISE them properly and started showing me all these pathetically slow speed reports.I did say to them, that the optimization was fine on my old host, and laid the blame firmly at Hostgator's feet.So they tried replacing the database, replacing the website and replacing the server, but everything was still impossibly slow.So I pointed the nameservers back to my old host and waited until this morning for them to propagate, so I cancelled my account on Hostgator.A few thoughts:If Hostgator really is that good, then why do they need to use Cloudflare which buggers up everything from logins to page navigation, then having to log in again because everything has by now timed out.Every other hosting provider advises against using Cloudflare if you're on Litespeed servers (which Hostgator is, apparently) as the results are sporadic. The support 'technicians' are mainly idiots who will press the odd button to resolve (or not resolve) your issue and then come back to you with their 'optimisation advice'.Well, Hostgator, my websites are now running far faster on my old host, so I'll let your team go back to pressing their buttons in peace.

Quick and knowledgeable response. Provided several possibilities to correct the problem. Issue seemed to correct itself but it was nice knowing someone was there to help right away.

I was about to buy a hosting service for them. I wanted to pay with crypto and it was advertised everywhere Hostgator accepts crypto. Turns out it's false.

Beware of the sneaky, non-refundable auto renew practice. No email, no warning. You are just being charged and their customers service is not willing to provide any refund. I'm sure this is working very well for Hostgator bottom line but good luck with attracting new customers with your dodgy practices

The system is generally speaking problematic. A lot of AI assisted bots that will waste your time in cases where human intervention is needed. The communication between departments as well is problematic. I had to deal with a payment issue my payments were cancelled for security reasons and it took 5-6 days until they were able to sort this out and let me use the products I had paid for. The only positive thing is that with human intervention and when one agent reacting responsible to my questions, managed to push and sort this problem out (Fabia is the name of the operator).AI is no Panacea...

Customer service (Kodee) was quick and helped direct me to where I needed to get to. I am not a techy or website guru, but was able to find what I needed through support.

At first I was disappointed with their bot! However Mr Muhammed tookover, understood the situation and helped me with a solution to my primary concern. He was knowledgeable and helpful, overall I am not so impressed and understood that Hostgator is not so keen on protecting customer account details. Hope they will make Hpanel data sharing SAFE and straight forward.
